Murals/ Tromp L'oel
This is the technique of creating visual illusion, whether in an entire room, one wall or individual pieces, the effect can be fun or sometimes stunning the only limitation is your imagination.
I painted (fig1) in a cellar creating a window where none previously existed. The butterflies frozen in flight so can't fool the onlooker into believing them real but the effect has a seductive picture book charm.
In (fig2) I have used the technique to create a country scene on a child’s bedroom wall. I was told the little girl loved rainbows.
The window in (fig3) was painted on MDF board to fit in a bricked up window giving an all year round sunny view of the countryside.
For the more sci-fi perhaps a window to another dimension (fig4)
A little girl wanted a tree house (fig5) I continued the country scene around the walls with swallows, butterflies and flowers and placed glow in the dark stars between the branches of the tree so that she could sleep under the stars.
Or something for a guitar loving teenager (fig6)
